EI.02An unexpected journey: becoming a clinical academic psychiatrist
This talk covers my career journey as an academic child and adolescent psychiatrist which I hope inspires early and mid career researchers. It has been an unexpected journey because so much has been accidental or good fortune. It is never easy to juggle an academic career, clinical work and having a family especially when one’s children are young. What helps?
I will also discuss the progression from the clinical bedside to research and back again. How does one blend clinical work with research?
I will talk about how evidence on ADHD genetics and also depression has evolved over the last 30 years during my career and challenges that I encountered.
I will also discuss my experience of using research findings to inform policies around services and working with Government.
There will be plenty of time to ask questions.
